TOOGOOM FAMILY FISHING COMPETITION 20182018 Winners
There were some great catches weighed in over the weekend of September 21st to 23rd of September for the annual Toogoom Family Fishing Competition and out of a total of 235 fish weighed in during the three days an amazing figure of 143 were released back into Beelbi Creek. What a great effort!
For the dead weigh in there were 82 fish weighed in gilled and gutted and these no doubt made a great feed for those who caught them.
Outstanding fishers were Cassie Nolen with five awards in the Junior Section and Steve Binney with four awards in the Senior Section. Cassie won Runner Up Heaviest Live Bream 0.672 kg, Heaviest Live Gar 0.112, Heaviest Dead Gar 0.030kg, Secret weight 0.085 kg, and Most Species (Live). Steve picked up prizes for Heaviest Live Whiting of 0.609 (no, it’s not a misprint), Runner Up Heaviest Live Whiting 0.394kg; Runner Up Heaviest Dead Whiting, 0.342; and Runner Up Heaviest Dead Grunter 0.823 kg. These two and all the other winners put in an amazing effort to achieve the results they did.
The Toogoom Family Fishing Competition really helps promote sustainable fishing in our local area with the practice of releasing all live catches from the weigh tank down at the boat ramp and legal sizes being strictly enforced. Come on down and have a look at the leader board once the weigh in starts at 3.00 p.m. and say g’day to the boys weighing and measuring the fish.
If the Toogoom Fishing Club is a group you would like to be a part of then ask any of the members in the blue or green club shirts how to go about it or just come down to the monthly weigh in held at the green fishing club’s shed in Oregan’s Creek Road on the Sunday of the first full weekend (including the Friday) of each month or check out:
